Desert Tree Elementary

Thank you for your interest in enrolling your child in Desert Tree Elementary, the leading K-5 public school in Royal Valley, California.

Built in 1976, our motto is “To Love to Learn”, because we believe the passion for knowledge is cyclical. In the early 1960s, the neighborhood of Desert Tree was developed to create an open, lush, natural living space in our desert valley, and it accelerated the city’s growth. By 1974, the division already had a population of over 7,000 inhabitants, and the original school, Sherman Miller, was no longer enough to serve all of the growing families’ educational needs. Desert Tree Elementary was then built over an undeveloped area of land originally intended to be a golf course in the center of the neighborhood. Fortunately for us, that deal fell through in 1973, sparing the lot’s old trees from destruction and giving a chance for another educational institute to take the burden of larger classes off of Sherman Miller’s overworked teachers and faculty. In the heart of the west end of Desert Tree, our school has a smaller occupancy, allowing our teachers to better interact with their students.

Desert Tree Elementary serves grades from Kindergarten to Fifth, with the youngest pupils separated into a corner segment of the grounds, with their own small playground. The main building contains an up-to-date computer lab and modern library with skylights, wide hallways, bike racks, an art room, and a hybrid cafeteria-auditorium. Our teachers have won the city’s elementary school teacher of the year award eight times in our nearly fifty-year history, and our three principals have been renown for their abilities to break through to troubled children and help them shape better futures.

Because of the size of the original land acquisition, we have wide-open outdoor spaces, and our enclosed and safe playground, the largest in Royal Valley, will help your little ones form unforgettable memories with new friends across their ample forty minutes of recess, while their learning continues by improving their social interaction skills. All while enjoying the quiet nature of an inner-suburb school with low traffic during the day.

As always, student application deadlines are on the last Friday in July!
