Camp Morning Dew

Camp Morning Dew

A beloved staple of the Royal Valley area, Camp Morning Dew has been called one of the best youth summer camps in the region. Nestled within the Castle Hill foothills and only a mile from the area’s famous overlook, the camp has been in continuous operation since 1972 and has featured full power and plumbing since 1975. Part of scenic Castle Hill State Park, which has provided the people of the desert valley a getaway from the heat and a chance to be in shaded nature, Morning Dew has two annual sessions – one for children aged 8-11 in June, and another for middle-schoolers, aged 12-14, in July.

Features include an amphitheater, outdoor lighting, two sleeping cabins with bunks, ceiling fans, and attached restrooms, the chow hall, and a small historical museum that has been closed and reopened multiple times for all visitors (check availability before arrival). On the off season, the grounds are available for fishing, hiking, and nature education.

Afraid you’re raising a lazy, screen-addicted kid? At Morning Dew, we can bring them back to the basics of social interaction. Our tradition has been in our crafts and activities, including some original games they won’t find anywhere else. Cell service is limited in the area, and phone use is only permitted for one hour each day. However, you can be guaranteed that our friendly staff will take plenty of photos, and have them available online to all attendees and their parents.

Camp Morning Dew has become particularly popular with students from Desert Tree Elementary, Sherman Miller Elementary, and Cookton Middle, with sporadic attendance levels from those who go to Royal Valley Elementary and Royal Valley Middle. However, all nature-curious kids across the city are welcome to spend two weeks in our care, making new friends along the way.

Please note that Morning Dew Pond has seen restricted access since 1988 due to an ongoing abundance of caution concerning microbial life. Proper guidance is given at orientation and appropriate punishments are used to discipline anyone caught swimming in the waters. We keep at least two lifeguard-trained counselors on staff at all times as a precuation.

Camp Counselor positions are now open and waiting to be filled for the summer season. If you are between the ages of fifteen and twenty-six and would like to apply, please contact our director at bmcdonough@morningdewRV.com
